Forte Test Automation Framework (C# / Selenium version)
One of the largest commercial property and casualty insurers in the United States was frustrated with their software release process. The company had a large portfolio of applications using an array of technologies from mainframe to mobile. Their centralized test organization was responsible for ensuring new features were released without compromising the integrity of dozens of existing applications.
The Vice President of Quality Assurance and Testing faced significant pressure from internal clients whose projects were delayed by increasingly long test cycles. The organization had previously tried and failed to address the issue through automation.
The client invited Forte Group to help find efficiencies in the team’s regression testing processes.
Forte Group worked with the client during the assessment to identify several opportunities to implement more scalable test practices through a combination of custom development and process improvements.
Maintenance
Previous attempts at automation were difficult to maintain and ultimately slowed down the test process.
Perspective
Previous implementations missed opportunities to automate time-consuming test activities.
After implementing the Forte Group Automation Framework and recommended process changes, the client was able to reduce time to market for new features as a result of a 75% reduction in regression test cycle time.
The use of the Forte Group Automation Framework gave the client the ability to support multiple applications from a single core framework, reducing implementation time and improving automation code reuse and consistency across all supported applications.
An additional benefit of using the test automation framework was the ability to leverage its data management features to automate the creation of test data, a manual activity that was previously taking time away from test activities. Test team members were then able to focus their efforts where they could deliver the most value: test creation and analysis for test analysts and automation framework enhancement and maintenance for automation engineers.
After achieving the immediate improvements to delivery speed, the client was able to realize lasting benefits by developing a consistent process for extending the framework. Through common test automation processes and architecture, the company reduced the time to value for extending automation coverage to additional applications.
Ease of Use
Forte Group helped the client implement a consistent, repeatable process for extending the framework to support new apps.
Faster Time to Market
The client saw a significant reduction in regression test cycle time.
Improved Resource Utilization
SMEs were able to refocus on high-value tasks such as exploratory testing versus executing regression tests 100% manually.
